A lot of SPUNK

SPUNK concert on 20 Dec

Formed in 1995, SPUNK comprises hcmf// Composer in Residence Maja S K Ratkje, Hild Sofie Tafjord, Lene Grenager and Kristin Andersen. Taking their name from a word invented by anarchic fictional children’s heroine Pippi Longstocking, the quartet have improvised freely in countless conventional concert halls, but have also been involved in some more unusual projects. Ahead of their concert at hcmf// 2012 on Friday 16 November, here’s a small selection:

Reir (Nest) in a disused pizza restaurant in Bodø

LYS (LIGHT), a commission for the Henie-Onstad Art Centre’s 40th anniversary

Das Wohltemperierte SPUNK, a 12-year concert series in which SPUNK improvise upon one tone per year, which reaches its conclusion on 20 December

Three-quarters of SPUNK perform a concert over Skype to the Knipsu gallery in Bergen in 2011

In addition, a new installation by SPUNK opens at Bomuldsfabriken arts centre in Arendal, Norway, on 17 November and runs until 16 December.
