NYJC Jazz Weekends
HCMF and the University of Huddersfield are hosting a series of four National Youth Jazz Collective Jazz Weekends at the new University of Huddersfield Creative Arts Building on:
18 October & 19 October 2008
10 January & 11 January 2009
21 February & 22 February 2009
21 March & 22 March 2009
Each weekend will comprise of:
- Educational activities for young musicians aged 18 and under led by expert jazz educators. These will include:
- jazz workshops and rehearsals
- instrument specific master classes
- jam sessions
- collective collaborations generating new works
- public performances alongside professional musicians
- open forums with sound advice on good practice and rehearsal techniques
- guidance on how to prepare for the NYJC's Summer School 2009 regional auditions
- seminars offering professional advice and guidance on jazz and the music profession
- A free family concert given by internationally acclaimed jazz musicians
- Professional development sessions to support regional teachers and jazz musicians
The educational activities are open to all local young musicians aged 18 and under. Each young musician will be placed in appropriate level groups and workshops and asked to pay a registration fee of £10 per weekend. A NYJC Bursary Scheme is available to cover all or part of the registration and travel costs for those in need of financial assistance.
Adult participants in the professional development sessions will be asked to pay £30 for each weekend's session or a block fee of £100 if paid in advance.
All family concerts will be free of charge and open to all ages. The first family concert is on Saturday 18 October, 4.30pm - 6.00pm at St Paul's Hall, University of Huddersfield
Jazz Weekends schedule:
Saturdays:
10am - 1pm & 2pm - 4pm: Education workshops for young musicians
4.30pm - 6pm: Free public performance (open to all ages) - St Paul's Hall
Sundays:
10am - 12noon: Professional development workshop for music leaders
1pm - 5pm: Education workshops for young musicians
